Micah Woodcock, a wild seaweed harvester from Stonington, ME, speaks about the reality of the practical, personal, and community sides of harvesting wild seaweed. He discusses his experiences in Maine and his opinions of the future of the seaweed industry and the people influenced by this business.

From initially moving to Traverse City, Michigan, to open a dive shop, Mike Wills has worked in a variety of waterfront-related jobs, from working on boats, operating two marinas, opening a community sailing program, and developing three waterfront real estate in downtown Traverse City. Wills serves as the chair of the Discovery Center Great Lakes, a prominent organization dedicated to the preservation and promotion of the working waterfront in Traverse City, Michigan.

Mike Flanagan is a retired Merchant Marine captain with forty years of experience from Thomaston, ME. He works to support young Mainers in pursuing a similar career path and building the skills necessary to work out at sea. Flanagan has been involved with the Maine Ocean School and other organizations to promote maritime education and training for high school graduates.

Nicole Faghin is a coastal management specialist affiliated with Washington Sea Grant, an organization dedicated to fostering sustainable use of marine resources. Her professional endeavors are primarily centered around the Puget Sound region, where she engages with waterfront communities. Faghin's work encompasses a broad spectrum of issues, including the preservation of working waterfronts, the mediation of land use conflicts, the addressing of environmental concerns, and the advancement of workforce education.

Parker Gassett, was a University of Maine graduate student in marine policy living in Camden, ME at the time of this interview.

Patrick Shepard works for the Maine Center for Coastal Fisheries and was born in Stonington, ME. He talks about his experiences growing up in a fishing family and lobstering with his brother from a very young age. He also speaks about the changes he sees in his hometown and what the future of fishing in Maine might hold, particularly in finding ways to make more money from a smaller amount of high quality product.

Paul Anderson is a scientist and executive director for the Maine Center for Coastal Fisheries from Winterport, ME.

Paul Molyneaux, an author, journalist, and former urchin harvester and fisherman from Milbridge, ME, speaks about the capitalism and economics of the fishing industry. He also speaks about his experiences winkling for periwinkle snails and diving for sea urchins as well as participating in the governance of the sea urchin fishery.

Peter Huston is a filmmaker and active member of the Chamber of Commerce on South Bass Island, Ohio. His professional and personal endeavors have positioned him as a knowledgeable figure in the community, particularly in matters concerning the local waterfront. Huston's engagement with the island's development and his creative background give him a unique perspective on the historical and contemporary issues facing his community. His work in the film industry has likely honed his storytelling abilities, enabling him to articulate the narrative of the island's evolution effectively.

Philip Conkling grew up in the Hudson River valley and is the retired co-founder and former president of the Island Institute from Camden, ME. Since then, he has been engaged in environmental and nonprofit consulting.
