Timothy Brown reminisces about his early fascination with astronomy, building telescopes and an observatory as a child with his father. Brown talks about his undergraduate school experience at Wesleyan University, a small liberal arts school in Middletown, Connecticut, and his work with the physicists on campus, specifically his mentor Jim Faller. Brown did his graduate studies at the University of Colorado, but completed most of his work in Tucson, working for a professor from the University of Arizona as an HAO (High Altitude Observatory) graduate student.

While not a fisherman himself, Tim is a master of a history that spans more than the lifetime of any one fisherman. Starting with the indigenous tribes of the area and ending right here in the present, Mr. Thomas relates a captivating story of boom and bust, and an ongoing cycle of life both of the bay and its inhabitants. This unique perspective provides a bird's eye view of the story of fishing in the bay and takes us on a journey through time and centuries of socioeconomic change that have produced the bay we know today.

Thomas A. Williams (1925-2006). Son of an innovative Menhaden fishing boat captain, Williams provided an inventory of steamboat landings and lighthouses. He described the wide range of goods delivered to and from Northumberland County by steamers.

Interview with Sally Murphy born October 16, 1943 in Savannah, GA. Murphy is the retired Sea Turtle Coordinator of the SC Dept. of Natural Resources. She established their turtle conservation program and conducted research to determine impacts on sea turtles and management of recovery efforts. Her work also included monitoring declines in the species as well as education and outreach to the public. Rubie Lee Norris (1916-2012). Then still living in a pre-Civil War house built by her great uncle near Topping on the Rappahannock River, Norris remembered riding the steamers to college in Fredericksburg and told vivid stories of clerking in her father’s store, which was supplied by steamers.

Ronald Bruch was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and spent his childhood summers in Ashland County, Wisconsin. Bruch attended the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, where he earned his bachelor's degree. He later obtained a master's degree and is completing his Ph.D. at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Bruch began his career with the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) in 1976, starting as an intern in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. He held various positions, including working on the O'Connor River Project and in Marinette and Milwaukee.
