Oscar Bunting Nantucket Lighthouse Middle School Interviews

Oscar Harold Bunting was born on August 12, 1931, in Bishop, Maryland. He was raised in Wisconsin and served four years in the Navy, after which he worked at the Straight Wharf Garage before working as a scalloper in 1952. He began scalloping in Nantucket, Massachusetts and continued in this profession for over five decades. Bunting's experience included independent commercial scalloping, primarily around Nantucket, Tuckernuck, and Muskeget. Bunting's father, a former Coast Guard member, also scalloped until his mysterious disappearance at sea.

Robert R. DeCosta Nantucket Lighthouse Middle School Interviews

Robert R. DeCosta was born on May 17, 1959, in Miami, Florida, and moved to Nantucket when he was three weeks old. Growing up in Nantucket, he began his career in the fishing industry at nine, working as a mate on his father's charter boat, the Albacore. Over the years, DeCosta took on various roles within the fishing industry, including construction work in the off-season and selling real estate. He became the captain of the Albacore in 1994 following the passing of his father.
