Adam's passion lies in positive storytelling and engaging with diverse stakeholders to find common ground in addressing environmental challenges while supporting sustainable fishing practices.

Scope and Content Note

Adam Mistler talks about their efforts to include and listen to fishermen and other ocean stakeholders in their environmental campaigns and how important it is to fight misconceptions on both sides to advance successful and supported ocean conservation and planning projects. He emphasizes that the lobstermen he interacts with are stewards of their livelihoods and want to pass down their fishing traditions to future generations. One of the major issues discussed is the protection of right whales, where lobstermen are making efforts to maintain their fishing practices while protecting the whales. Adam highlights the importance of collaboration between environmental nonprofits like Ocean Conservancy and the fishing community. He mentions their involvement in initiatives such as the global ghost gear initiative, where they work with lobstermen to remove derelict fishing gear from the water, benefiting both the environment and the fishing industry. The conversation also touches on ocean planning, ocean acidification, sustainable fisheries, and funding for ocean programs.
