Dr. Don Hoss, hailing from Mexico, Missouri, has devoted a significant portion of his life to the field of fisheries. His educational journey began at the University of Missouri, where he obtained a Bachelor's degree in Fisheries. Don joined the Beaufort Laboratory in 1958 as a Fishery Biologist, embarking on a long and fruitful career that would span over four decades. He obtained a Master's degree from North Carolina State University in 1966, followed by a Ph.D. in 1971. In recognition of his invaluable contributions, Don was appointed as the Director of the Beaufort Lab, serving from 1999 to 2002. Similarly, Dr. Ford "Bud" Cross, who grew up in Ohio, dedicated a significant portion of his career to the Beaufort Laboratory. Bud's academic journey began at Mount Union College in Ohio, where he obtained a Bachelor's degree. He continued his education at Oregon State University, pursuing a Graduate degree in Oceanography. He completed a Master's degree in 1964, followed by a Ph.D. in 1968. In 1967, he joined the Beaufort Lab as a Fishery Biologist, embarking on a career that spanned over three decades. He was appointed as the Director of the Beaufort Lab in 1986, a role he fulfilled until 2000.
