Biographical Sketch

Mark Guishard is a meteorologist who currently serves as the Director of the Bermuda Weather Service (BWS), a division of the Government of Bermuda's Ministry of National Security. He has been with the BWS since 2001 and has held various positions, including Senior Meteorologist and Acting Director, before being appointed as the Director in 2016. Guishard has extensive experience in the field of meteorology and has provided weather forecasting and consulting services to a range of organizations, including the Bermuda Tourism Authority, the Bermuda Institute of Ocean Sciences, and the Bermuda Land Development Company. He has also been involved in research projects related to climate change and weather forecasting, and has presented his findings at international conferences. Guishard holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Meteorology from the Pennsylvania State University and a Master of Science degree in Atmospheric Science from Colorado State University.

Scope and Content Note
Guishard’s Ph.D. thesis topic was sub tropical storms. In his current position at the Bermuda Institute of Ocean Sciences, Guishard works mostly with oceanographers, marine biologists and ecologists. He mentions that he worked at the Bermuda Weather Service for approximately fifteen years, becoming director there. Guishard describes his first experience attending an AMS conference and the importance of interacting with the wider community.
