In her current role, Captain Judy Helmey operates as the proprietor of Miss Judy Charters, a longstanding family business established over fifty years ago in Savannah and Tybee Island, Georgia. The company offers inshore, offshore, and Gulf Stream charter fishing trips, managed by Captain Judy since the 1960s. She oversees a team of experienced charter captains and a fleet of ten boats. Judy's career began at a young age, working alongside her father in the charter business and obtaining her charter captain license at eighteen. Her upbringing instilled a deep appreciation for nature and fisheries. She has contributed to fisheries governance as a member of the Council's Snapper Grouper Advisory Panel and has participated in various wildlife and fisheries management conferences. Judy holds eight state fishing records and two world records. Captain Judy advocates for sustainable fisheries management, drawing from her lifelong involvement in the industry. She emphasizes the need for informed decision-making to ensure the preservation of marine resources for future generations. As a member of the South Atlantic Fishery Management Council, she remains dedicated to this cause.
