This interview with Ben Hartig, South Atlantic Fishery Management Council member, was conducted as part of the SERO Fishery Managers Oral History project. This project is a collection of oral histories by individuals who participate in fishery management within the Southeast Region of the U.S. and consists of individuals who serve on the regional councils and their scientific and advisory panels or staff. This interview with Mr. Hartig explores his career as a commercial fisherman which started in the early 1970s, as well as his long tenure as a South Atlantic Council member. Ben served on the council for 6 years in the 1990s and was reappointed in 2009 and 2012.
