Biographical Sketch

Dr. David McKee is a seasoned marine biologist with a rich history of involvement in the field. Born and raised in Sinton, Texas, Dr. McKee spent his early years with a keen interest in nature, often found with a BB gun in one hand and a fishing rod in the other. His passion for the outdoors was nurtured by his family, particularly his uncles and grandfather, who were avid hunters and fishermen. Dr. McKee's academic journey began with a bachelor's degree in biology from Texas A&M-Kingsville (formerly A&I). He then pursued a master's degree in marine biology at Corpus Christi State University (CCSU), which later became Texas A&M-Corpus. His thirst for knowledge led him to Texas A&M College Station, where he earned his doctorate. Before completing his doctorate, Dr. McKee was hired to set up a mariculture program, which continues to operate today. His early career also included teaching life science at Flour Bluff and running a shop selling exotic off-road motorcycles. He later joined Texas Parks and Wildlife, working at the Rockport Marine Lab for four years before moving to the Upper Laguna Madre to run the field station.
